London’s Most Comprehensive Foot Health Centre

Chiropodist in Clapham

June 2018 is foot health month, an awareness campaign initiated by the College of Podiatry to highlight the importance of foot health and of checking and taking care of our feet regularly.

What makes our feet so incredible?

They are made up of 100 movable parts, including 26 bones and 20 muscles providing us with balance and support when we walk. When we walk, our toes are in contact with the ground 75% of the time and so our feet bear the weight of our entire body.

Oftentimes people overlook the importance of foot health. We tend to regard foot pain “part of life”. Paul F. Brezinski (president of the Illinois Podiatric Medical Association) says, “The health of your feet, despite their distance from your heart, can affect your overall health.” If you’re experiencing regular aches and pains in your feet, it can stem from many causes and should not be ignored.

Foot pain could be related to serious conditions such as:

  • Peripheral Arterial Disease
  • Diabetes
  • Rheumatoid Arthritis
  • Bunions
  • Neuromas

At Fitter Feet For Life, we take foot health very seriously, offering the most cutting-edge treatments for professional athletes, children, sports enthusiasts and everyone in between! So, considering foot health month, let’s take a look at why Fitter Feet For Life, chiropodist in Clapham, is London’s most comprehensive foot health centre.

Our staff are trained in podiatric medicine and are trained to cure your foot problems and keep you active on your feet. Here are some of the services we offer:

Shockwave Therapy for Heel Pain

Heel pain usually experienced by individuals who work on their feet is a common but painful condition. The shockwave therapy we provide is a non-surgical treatment and works by focusing impulses of energy, targeted to specific damaged tissues around the heel, such as the plantar fascia and painful Achilles tendons.

Verrucae Treatment

Verrucae are viral growths on the foot. We will examine your feet and recommend one of a number of available treatments, depending on the depth, number and age of your verrucae - and similar moles on your hands and feet.

Treatment of Rheumatoid Arthritis

Here are some things our podiatrists can do to make walking less painful:

  • Orthoses
  • Shoes
  • Protective shields
  • Surgery

Get in touch with us for a consultation to further explain these methods.

Diabetes and Foot Care

Our Podiatrist will normally check both the blood supply to your feet and look for evidence of loss of sensation in your feet. Blood supply will be checked by looking at the colour of the skin, checking the pulses in the feet and by asking questions about certain kinds of pains in your feet and legs.

Our podiatrist will check these pulses by feeling the pulse with their fingers. Sometimes they will use a small hand-held scanner (called a Doppler) to listen to the pulse.

Children's Foot Health

It is never normal for children to have pain in their feet or legs. Growing pains are not a part of normal development. They are often the result of poor foot structure such as flat feet, or poor joint alignment. We offer Gait Analysis for children which allows us to see foot, ankle, knee, hip and back alignment in slow motion, helping us to assess abnormal posture.
