Our Services
Foot Surgery
Podiatric surgery is the surgical management of the bones, joints and soft tissues of the foot and associated structures. The main conditions we treat surgically include bunions / hallux valgus, arthritic toe joints, injuries & genetic deformities as well as trapped nerves, severe plantar fasciitis, ganglions & neuroma.
Podiatry / Chiropody
Our clinical staff are highly skilled and motivated to keep your feet healthy so you can enjoy an active life. We have the knowledge and most up to date technology to treat everything including verrucas, fungal nail infections and ingrowing nails.
Gait and Posture Analysis
Pain in your knees, back, shoulders, hips and feet is often linked to your gait and posture. By analysing how you move using a pressure plate and camera system we can locate areas of high loading under your foot and abnormalities in your gait. Then by digitally scanning your feet we can create tailormade orthoses (foot supports that fit inside your shoe) to realign your posture and get you moving effectively and pain-free.
Fungal Nail Infections
Fungal nail infections affect up to 10% of people in the UK. The infection causes the nail to become thicker, crumbly and turn yellow or brown. In extreme cases the nail can bleed and become painful. Fitter Feet for Life offer relief from nail fungal infections using oral antifungals, lacquers and a state of the-art medical laser. This technology has exceptional success rates. Fungal infections usually get worse over time and can spread to other nails and other people so are best treated as soon as they appear. If you are not sure if you have a nail infection please call and we will book you the appropriate appointment, arrange, if necessary, a culture test to determine the exact infection type, and then provide a treatment plan that suits you.
Diabetes and foot Care
How does diabetes affect my feet? One of the ways is through a loss of sensation, often starting at the toes. This is called ‘neuropathy’ and it’s estimated 1 in 3 people with diabetes will be affected in this way. In the long term excess sugar in the blood can damage nerves so badly that injuries may go unnoticed. Diabetes also harms blood vessels, lowering blood flow and slowing healing. As a result, small cuts or pressure points can develop into foot ulcers. High blood sugar also makes infections more likely and more severe. As a result of these changes diabetic foot care can be considered especially challenging so we pride ourselves on our level of care in this area.
Shockwave Therapy for Heel Pain
Shockwave therapy (SWT) is a non-surgical, evidence-based treatment, often used for plantar fasciitis and tendinitis. It works by focusing high-energy acoustic waves at the affected area to stimulate the body’s natural repair process. At Fitter Feet for Life, SWT is often used in tandem with exercise programmes and a gait appraisal.
Verrucae Treatment
A verruca is a viral growth in the skin of the foot, most commonly Types 1 & 2 of the human papillomavirus (PVP). Fitter Feet will examine the suspect area and recommend one of a number of available treatments, depending on the depth, number and age of your verrucae. We have chemical, surgical and laser options available.
Rheumatoid Arthritis
Osteoarthritis is caused by wear and tear whereas rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic inflammatory disease where a faulty immune system attacks the tissue that lines and cushions joints, leaving them swollen, painful and stiff. Our latest low-level laser can help improve blood flow to these areas and reduce swelling in some affected areas. We also find that carefully prescribed orthoses can reduce pressure on affected joints, often helping to reduce long-term pain.
